3. Making Art Felt Like Lying, So I Cut Hair Like My Mother Instead

2025
Installation
Cut and collected hair, various hardware, string,
stolen metal sheet, vintage lamps, paper, secondhand frame, glass vase, lilies

For one year I cut and collected my friends hair. My hands worked a job that benefitted them in a practical, needed, useful way. The same way as my parents and grandparents hands had done in their respective jobs over the years before me. I do not come from a family of academics or artists, but rather builders and hairdressers. This work is a validation of them. To bring them into the white cube gallery. To create a space of domesticity - with a fragrant bunch of lilies in the corner - just as they have done for me. That will have to do art, that will just have to do.
